AWARDS

The soldiers who served or supported the 3rd Battalion, 1st Infantry Regiment during the Vietnam War were awarded many medals for acts of heroism.  The following citations were reproduced from original material (citations, newspapers, etc.) and are presented here, in chronological order, to recognize the heroic acts of these brave men.

CPT JAMES A. WALKER WAS AWARDED THE SILVER STAR FOR HIS ACTIONS ON DECEMBER 20, 1968.

MAJ VIRGIL W. OGLESBY WAS AWARDED THE SILVER STAR FOR HIS ACTIONS ON LZ CORK.

SP4 LARRY J. TILLER WAS AWARDED THE SILVER STAR IN APRIL, 1969.

SP4 BILLY D. PEARCE WAS AWARDED THE SILVER STAR IN APRIL, 1969.

CPT WILLIAM J. STRAUB WAS AWARDED THE SILVER STAR IN AUGUST, 1969.

1LT JOHN F. BAXTER, III WAS AWARDED THE BRONZE STAR WITH "V" DEVICE IN JANUARY, 1970.

SGT ROBERT J. TAORMINA WAS AWARDED THE BRONZE STAR WITH "V" DEVICE (1ST OLC) IN JANUARY, 1970.

SGT WILLIAM RAWLINGS WAS AWARDED THE BRONZE STAR WITH "V" DEVICE (1ST OLC) IN JANUARY, 1970.

PFC GLYN E. HAYNIE WAS AWARDED THE SILVER STAR IN JANUARY, 1970.

1LT ALAN G. VITTERS WAS AWARDED THE SOLDIER'S MEDAL IN FEBRUARY, 1970.

SP4 SAMUEL E. RICE WAS AWARDED THE BRONZE STAR WITH "V" DEVICE (1ST OLC) IN FEBRUARY, 1970.
