SAIGON — A truck carrying soldiers from the 11th Brigade, Americal Div., struck a mine near Quang Ngai Thursday, killing six Americans and wounding four, a U.S. military spokesman reported.

The truck was being used in support of a routine operation four miles west of the Quang Ngai Province capital when it struck an unknown-type mine, the spokesman said.

It was the worst mine incident since nine Americans were killed in the same area a month ago, the spokesman said.
